Smith Family Update Part 1: Houston, Here We Come!

It's been a while since we've posted anything, but a whole lot has happened since we last spoke! Boy, are there some stories to share! To save you time, I'll break them up into a few different posts so you're not stuck with one looonnngg post (you're welcome). So, to start, here's part 1 :)

Back in August of 2014, the hubs got tickets to see his favorite team, the Toronto Blue Jays, play against the Houston Astros in Houston, TX. So, off we went to Houston for a long weekend of travel and baseball!

We stayed at this really cool hotel called the Magnolia, it was large and beautiful. We were on one of the top floors and we had an amazing view of downtown.

What was really cool was how close we were to the baseball field. It was literally just a couple of blocks down from the hotel. So, after we rode to the first game, we ended up walking to the second one.

We got a lot of freebies at the gates when we arrived for the games since we were some of the first to get to the field before the game, I wasn't expecting that. We ended up with bobble heads the fist day and jerseys the second day. We didn't get to go to the third game due to the fact that the hubs had to go back to work on Monday, otherwise we probably would've ended up with even more freebies.

Our seats were really nice, we were close to home plate, so we had a very good view of the whole field. I know the hubs really enjoyed the whole experience, I had a great time too, it was a very cool experience. I had been to a baseball game before, but this time was far better. Sadly the Blue Jays didn't win while we were there, but it was great to see them play!

So, that's just a small snip of the weekend, now for some other things that happened that weekend…

          (dramatic pause)

Our second day in Houston something happened that neither of us had ever experienced….there was a blackout…yeah, bet you didn't think that was coming, we definitely didn't. It was eerily quiet in the hallway and someone came and knocked on our door, apparently their wife were stuck in the elevator at the time the blackout occurred…and let me say, the power was out for almost an hour. So, we waited out the blackout in the hotel room, walked through the hallway with our flashlights (cellphones). I got freaked out, surprisingly enough. Then it all finally ended and the lights came back, yay!

Anyway, after all the waiting, we decided we'd take a walk and find some lunch before the evening game. Sadly, all the restaurants around where our hotel was and few more blocks were all closed because of the blackout. Luckily we found this really cool Tapas place that we stopped at, it was amazing.

That's about the whole story. Oh yeah, we stopped at IKEA on the way home…let's just say, what was suppose to be a 30 minute trip ended up being a 3 hour trip.

Keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for Update Part 2!!
